1723 - 4 Rome (by Easter 1723 - Nov. 1724). A Jacobite, known as 'Jambe de Bois', he had left Rome with the merchant Thomas Smith late in 1724.1 He may have been the 'Monsu Li lutero' living on the Strada Paolina at Easter 1723.2

c.1767 Rome. He bought some of Gavin Hamilton's pictures, including 'a Madona and Child by Guercino which I rank among the most precious bitts I have seen of that master' ( NLI MS 2262; G. Hamilton, 23 May 1767).

1778 Genoa (Jun. - Dec.). Lee and 'a Musician who travels with him' were staying with the consul John Collet in Genoa in June 1778; in December Lee had decided to take a house in Genoa (Genoa cons.corr.MSS, 20 Jun., 5 Dec.).
1778 Naples (May). 'A very worthy plain old Gentleman' who was in Naples in May 1778; Thomas Hardwick met him several times (Hardwick jnl.MSS, 3, 10, 23, 27 May)

1785 - 6 Turin (Jan. - May 1785), Rome (winter 1785 - 6). On 23 Jan. 1785 he was presented at Court in Turin;1 he was still there on 22 May when he met Lord Grey de Wilton.2 'Lee' was noticed in Rome between December 1785 and April 1786.3
